Breaking New Ground
A growing community
Carrigtwohill is a community that is booming with growth. In 2022, the population of Carrigtwohill was 5,568, and the Cork County Development Plan set a target to have 10,000 people living in the town by 2028. It is projected that the growth could reach 15,000 by 2034. Hundreds of new homes have already been built, hundreds more are under construction, multinational companies are expanding in the industrial park, and multiple new retail projects are in various stages of development. The towns around us are also expanding quickly, and an entire new town is currently being built from scratch just to the east, with 8,000 new homes planned.
A new opportunity
We have recently purchased a property in the middle of Main Street, Carrigtwohill. Our plan is to develop the site to provide a church building with capacity to seat 150 people, along with associated meeting rooms and office space. A permanent building on the Main Street would greatly increase our availability in the community and provide a long-term meeting place for our congregation. It would give us a constant presence in the town and a flexible space that would open up a huge array of possibilities for local ministry and outreach. Carrigtwohill is also well positioned to provide a space for the wider benefit of our local church network, such as for meetings, special events, training, and outreach.
Next steps
Although our development plans are still in draft stage, we expect to have to raise a million euro to cover the costs of completing a suitable building. As our plans are finalised this estimate will become more exact, and we are pursuing all options to keep the costs as low as possible. Our next steps are to complete our architectural plans and engage with the local authority for planning permission. These steps will take a number of months, and during this time we will be actively fundraising for the construction costs so that we can break ground as soon as possible.
